Punjab Heatwave: Temperature Hits 46°C, Breaking 11-Year Record

Punjab is currently in the grip of a relentless heatwave, with temperatures soaring above 46 degrees Celsius, marking the highest recorded temperature of the season and shattering an 11-year-old record. The absence of rainfall offers little respite, prompting the Health Department to issue a precautionary advisory.

Samrala emerged as the hottest spot on Friday, recording a scorching 46.3 degrees Celsius, surpassing the previous record set in May 2013. Temperatures across Punjab are now nearly 5 degrees above normal, with Chandigarh registering its highest temperature of the season at 44.5 degrees Celsius.

The Meteorological Department has issued a heatwave alert for most parts of Punjab for the next four days. Cities like Patiala, Amritsar, Pathankot, and Barnala are experiencing temperatures around 44 degrees Celsius. Amritsar recorded a minimum temperature of 25.8 degrees Celsius, marking a significant increase from the norm.
