UGC Chairman Prof. M. Jagadish Kumar took to social media to unveil the groundbreaking decision, heralding a new era for students pursuing 4-year Bachelor's degrees. Under the revised guidelines, students currently in their 8th semester of a 4-year Bachelor's program are now eligible for direct admission to PhD programs (PhD Admission 2024). A prerequisite for this pathway is securing a total of 75% marks or its equivalent grade, offering a lifeline to numerous students. Importantly, candidates can now pursue PhD in any subject of their choice, irrespective of their field of study during their undergraduate years (PhD Admission Rules). Additionally, there exists a provision for a 5% relaxation in marks for candidates belonging to SC, ST, OBC (Non-Creamy Layer), Divyang, Economically Weaker Section, and other eligible categories.
