Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized the necessity of an industrial revolution for Dalits and tribals, stating that relying solely on agriculture is insufficient. In an exclusive NDTV interview, PM Modi highlighted the teachings of Baba Saheb Ambedkar, who advocated for industrialization in India, a point often overlooked by politicians.
During the interview, NDTV Editor-in-Chief Sanjay Puglia asked about Modi's growth targets, particularly moving people from agriculture to manufacturing. Modi responded by reiterating Ambedkar’s views on the importance of industrial revolution, stressing that the burden on farmers must be reduced. He pointed out that many poor and tribal people do not own land, making it crucial for them to engage in industrial activities.
Modi emphasized the need for diversification in agriculture, which can be achieved through decentralized industrial networks. He explained that industrial development can alleviate the pressure on agriculture and make it more sustainable. Using Gujarat as an example, he described how the state, despite having limited natural resources, benefited significantly from industrial growth during times of agricultural drought.
He noted the rapid growth of the automobile industry and the burgeoning market for electric vehicles in India. Modi highlighted the country's achievements in mobile phone manufacturing, mentioning that one in seven iPhones are now made in India. He also discussed the promising future of lab-grown diamonds, referencing Gujarat’s success in the diamond industry.
Looking ahead, Modi expressed confidence in India’s potential to become a major player in semiconductor manufacturing and transport-related industries. He mentioned the progress in defense manufacturing, with production reaching significant levels, and stated that India is on the brink of a complete industrial revolution.
In summary, PM Modi’s interview underscored the critical need for industrialization to reduce the dependence on agriculture and create opportunities for Dalits and tribals. By fostering industrial growth, India can achieve a more balanced and robust economic development.
