Senior BJP leader Sushil Kumar Modi passed away at Delhi's All-India Institute of Medical Sciences on Monday evening at the age of 72 after battling cancer. He had been in the intensive care unit of AIIMS for the past month. Sushil Kumar Modi, once a prominent face of the BJP in Bihar, had withdrawn from the ongoing Lok Sabha elections due to his health condition, as announced on social media on April 3.

In a heartfelt post, he revealed, "I have been battling cancer for the last 6 months. Now I feel that the time has come to tell people. I will not be able to do anything in the Lok Sabha elections. I have told everything to the PM. Always grateful and always dedicated to the country, Bihar and the party."

Sushil Kumar Modi's absence from the political arena was expected to be deeply felt in Bihar, where he held significant influence within the party, nurtured over three decades. His tenure spanned over 11 years in two separate stints, serving as the Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar under Nitish Kumar's leadership.

His passing was mourned by senior BJP figures such as Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, and Ravi Shankar Prasad, who paid tribute to his dedication to public service and his commitment to the welfare of the poor and marginalized. The loss of Sushil Kumar Modi has left a void in Bihar politics that will be difficult to fill for a long time.
