Saudi King Salman Undergoes Medical Examination and Treatment
After several hours of examination, treatment will be administered to alleviate the lung inflammation of Saudi King Salman.
Saudi King Salman will undergo treatment for lung inflammation at the Al Salam Palace in Jeddah, as announced by the state news agency on Sunday.
Citing the Royal Court, the state news agency stated that the 88-year-old king's inflammation would be treated with antibiotics until it subsides.
Japan's Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga stated that due to health issues concerning King Salman, Saudi leader Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman postponed his scheduled trip to Japan, which was set to commence on Monday.
Speaking at a press conference, Hayashi said, "Saudi Arabia informed the Japanese government that due to the health condition of King Salman, Crown Prince Mohammed's trip to Japan, scheduled to begin on the 20th, has been postponed."
Prior to this, on Sunday, King Salman underwent medical examination at the Royal Clinic of Al Salam Palace due to "high temperature and joint pain," as reported by the state TV.
It was reported earlier that the king was admitted to the hospital for regular check-ups in April.
King Salman, the guardian of Islam's holiest sites, ascended to the throne of the world's leading oil-exporting nation in 2015 after spending more than two and a half years as crown prince and deputy premier.
His illness comes at a time when Crown Prince was in talks with American national security adviser Jake Sullivan on a strategic agreement between Washington and Riyadh.
The Saudi embassy in Japan did not immediately respond to requests for comment on the canceled trip of the Crown Prince. During the scheduled trip from May 20-23, he was to meet with Japan's Emperor Naruhito and Prime Minister Fumio Kishida.
